Aug 31st, 10:30 a.m. Outing – Self-Sufficiency: Doing Everything Yourself with the Environment’s Resources Autosuffisance : tout faire soi-même avec les ressources de l’environnement

Let’s meet at the Weller Farm hangar/dance hall. After a brief welcome and introductions, participants can explore interest groups and activities highlighting the theme of self-sufficiency: from homesteading and organic gardening to innovative projects like pond construction, drone programming, and small-aircraft design.
At noon, we’ll come together to share a potluck picnic, either outdoors in the picnic area or indoors in the hall, depending on the weather.
Please bring:
A dish to share for the potluck
Folding chairs (for mealtime and also useful for resting, if needed)
Curiosity and questions!
Also available on site: U-Pick garden and orchard.
We are especially fortunate to be joined by our current WWOOFer*, Agnas from Hungary, who brings a wealth of knowledge in fields ranging from electrobiology and plant science to laser technology. She will also share her personal story of growing up in Hungary, first under Soviet influence, through the democratic transition into NATO membership, and into the challenges of the present political climate.
In addition, it’s worth remembering that Unitarianism itself originated in 16th-century Transylvania, then part of Hungary. Agnas may be able to answer questions about that historical connection as well.
*For those who don’t know: A WWOOFer (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms volunteer) is a traveler who helps on organic farms in exchange for room, board, and learning experiences. The Weller family has hosted WWOOFers from all over the world, making this gathering a unique opportunity for cultural exchange, learning, and conversation.
