(Version française suit) \nAs neuroscientists learn more about the brain\, they acknowledge that human memory is both slippery and hard wired. Gabriella Brand speaks of the role that memory can play in our daily existence. By consciously forging and cultivating positive memories can we bring greater meaning to our lives and to the lives of others. \nGabriella Brand is an educator\, author\, linguist\, and counselor.  Her writing appears in The Christian Science Monitor\, the Globe and Mail\, and in over fifty literary publications.  She teaches languages and writing in the OLLI program at the University of Connecticut.  A lay leader in the Unitarian tradition\, Gabriella lives in Connecticut with her husband\, the Reverend Douglas Peary. \nDIRECTIONS: In the town of Stanstead\, use the little border crossing (NOT Highway 55). SUMMARY:Away from UUEstrie - Rachel Garber & Adele Ernstrom\, “Write for Rights” at Book Fest
DESCRIPTION:UUEstrie’s Write for Rights table will be at the Townships Sun’s Book Fest at the Amédée-Beaudoin Community Centre\, 10 Grantham St.\, Lennoxville\, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers at the table will be Camille Bouskéla\, Adele Ernstrom\, Rachel Garber\, and Mary Lynn Ross. (No service in North Hatley.) \nPlease help support Amnesty International’s campaign for the release of unjustly imprisoned human rights and environmental activists around the world. We will have petitions to sign\, as well as letters to sign and mail. With all our voices together\, we CAN make a difference. \nCome anytime during the day; between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. there will be free pancakes\, and tea and treats throughout the day. More than 25 Townships authors and their books will be there. At 10:15 a.m. will be a 15-minute presentation about the Write for Rights campaign\, and short readings\, videos\, and presentations will continue all day. See the programme here (townshipssun.ca). DESCRIPTION:At the darkest time of the year\, we come together in wonder of the Great Mystery. The sun in our Northern Hemisphere at Winter Solstice is “reborn” and\, at the same time\, the biblical birth of Jesus of Nazareth\, the son of Mary is retold and celebrated. But how does this nativity story fit within the context of an evolving cosmology that\, according to experts\, is 13.7 billion years old? Let us wonder and marvel at this ever-evolving\, interdependent web of life together. \nThis candlelit service will feature plenty of seasonal singing followed by a potluck. Le soleil de notre hémisphère nord\, au solstice d’hiver\, “renaît” et\, en même temps\, la naissance biblique de Jésus de Nazareth\, le fils de Marie\, est racontée et célébrée. Mais comment cette histoire de la Nativité s’inscrit-elle dans le contexte d’une cosmologie en évolution qui\, selon les experts\, serait vieille de 13\,7 milliards d’années ? Émerveillons-nous de ce réseau de vie ensemble\, interdépendant et en constante évolution. \nCe service aux chandelles comprendra de nombreux chants saisonniers suivis d’un repas-partage.
