DESCRIPTION:August 1st ushered in a season of first harvest here in the Northern Hemisphere\, including festivals\, fairs\, outdoor games\, and tournaments. The 2024 Summer Olympic Games hosted in Paris\, added to the competitive spirit of this time of year.  These games are steeped in a tradition that began in Ancient Greece thousands of years ago.  In our Sunday service\, we will explore a link between the Olympics and religion\, including a “spiritual tug of war” between the pagan and the Christian that was even stirred up during the recent Olympics opening ceremony. \nDimanche 25 août\, à 10 h 30. À L’ÉTAGE (en anglais) \nLes Jeux d’été\, l’expression artistique et un bras de fer spirituel avec Amy Panetta\nLe 1er août a marqué le début d’une saison de récoltes dans l’hémisphère nord\, avec des festivals\, des foires\, des jeux en plein air et des tournois. Les Jeux olympiques d’été de 2024\, organisés à Paris\, ont renforcé l’esprit de compétition de cette période de l’année. Ces jeux sont ancrés dans une tradition qui a commencé dans la Grèce antique il y a des milliers d’années. Dans notre service du dimanche\, nous explorerons le lien entre les Jeux olympiques et la religion\, notamment un « bras de fer spirituel » entre les païens et les chrétiens qui a même été attisé lors de la récente cérémonie d’ouverture des Jeux olympiques.

SUMMARY:Sunday August 4\, 10:30 a.m.: "Georgian and Corsican trio” with Max\, Carl and Heather
DESCRIPTION:Maxime Levesque\, Heather Davis\, and Carl Lemaire\, all residents of Sherbrooke\, have had trouble agreeing on a name for their trio\, but The Georgian Harmony Trio is apt because the group was founded based on a shared enthusiasm for singing Georgian polyphony. Maxime discovered his first Georgian song when he was singing with Le Choeur des Sang Mêlés and he later travelled to Georgia and participated in singing workshops there. Since Georgian songs typically have three voices\, he needed two singers to accompany him\, and luckily his enthusiasm was contagious! Now the trio gathers regularly to sing and also occasionally hosts Georgian supras (feasts with lots of food\, toasts and singing). Heather and Carl also sing with La Voix du Village\, but appreciate the chance to sing in a small group. In the last year\, the trio discovered Corsican music and their repertoire in this area is growing. On Sunday\, they will sing Georgian\, Corsican\, and English songs\, and Maxime willl speak briefly about the Georgian tradition of polyphony.\nDimanche 4 août\, à 10 h 30. À L’ÉTAGE (en anglais)\nLe Georgian Harmony Trio (Maxime Levesque\, Heather Davis et Carl Lemaire) chante des chansons géorgiennes\, corses et anglaises\nMaxime Levesque\, Heather Davis et Carl Lemaire\, tous trois résidents de Sherbrooke\, ont eu du mal à s’entendre sur un nom pour leur trio\, mais le nom du Georgian Harmony Trio est tout indiqué\, car le groupe a été fondé à partir d’un enthousiasme commun pour le chant polyphonique géorgien. Maxime a découvert sa première chanson géorgienne alors qu’il chantait avec Le Choeur des Sang Mêlés et il s’est ensuite rendu en Géorgie pour y participer à des ateliers de chant. Comme les chansons géorgiennes ont généralement trois voix\, il avait besoin de deux chanteurs pour l’accompagner\, et heureusement\, son enthousiasme était contagieux! Maintenant\, le trio se réunit régulièrement pour chanter et organise aussi occasionnellement des supras géorgiens (des festins avec beaucoup de nourriture\, de toasts et de chants). Heather et Carl chantent également avec La Voix du Village\, mais apprécient la chance de chanter dans un petit groupe. Depuis un an\, le trio découvre la musique corse et son répertoire dans ce domaine s’élargit. Dimanche\, ils chanteront des chansons géorgiennes\, corses et anglaises\, et Maxime parlera brièvement de la tradition polyphonique géorgienne.
